About Vienna International Airport
Vienna International Airport in Austria is about 11 miles (18 kilometers) southeast of the center of Vienna. It is about 30 miles (49 kilometers) from Bratislava, Slovakia.
The airport was built in 1938. It was a military airport at first. The British took control of the airport in 1945 and in 1954 it became Vienna’s principal airport. It was expanded in 1959, 1960 and 1972.
The two terminals at the airport are in the same building. Airport amenities include a JET lounge and an AIR lounge with PC stations, Internet access, cable television and a snack buffet. The lounges open at 6:00 a.m. The airport’s Medical Centre has a nurse on duty 24 hours a day.
The airport offers a large selection of restaurants. Servas, Ströck and McDonald’s are open to the public 24 hours a day. Servas has coffee and Austrian items. Ströck has drinks, snacks and pastries. Brahms & Liszt opens at 5:00 a.m. This restaurant has traditional Austrian food. Several coffee shops in the airport also open at 5:00 a.m. Free wireless LAN is available 24 hours a day in all the restaurant areas.
Chocolate, perfume, tobacco and alcohol can be purchased at the airport’s duty free shops. Designer shops sell Hermes and Burberry. Some shops sell Austrian clothing and souvenirs.
